The design from the 1800's which is a workhorse of the industry today. Most Hammermills are horizontal or vertical shaft designs which use rotating mass as a means of hammering their way through difficult materials. Car Shredding is one such application where a 1200 pound hammer sqings through the car at 120 mph cutting it into 3" pieces for the steel industry.
